River Island People in Bangladesh
Bangladesh is in a rapid transition of climate change and globalization. At present agriculture based economy of Bangladesh is giving priority to the industrial development. In the name of development the environment of the country is under a great threat. In last one decade the nature and landscape of the country has changed significantly. In Sujan’s photographs we can explore people’s life and struggle in the river areas a decade back. The photos contain festival, daily life, and basic source of income, fishing, transporting goods, natural calamity and change in the environment. These pictures are one of the last few the harmony of living with nature seen in the beautifully crafted imagery. Pagination: 120
BA Sujan is working on river island case studies of families in the north of Bangladesh to show the impact of water scarcity, erosion and manmade disaster. The areas covered areas: Rajshahi, chapai Nababganj, Kurigram, Nilphamari and Gaibandha. All the rivers in these districts (Padma, Dharala, Teesta, Dudhkumar and Brahmaputra) are flowing from India and further along, the sources are the Himalayas.
The main objective of this study is to show the cause and effect of food security, the changing climate, the resilience of the char people, rural to urban migration. Sujan of Map Photo Agency is working on the changing char life in the north and proposing to complement the on-going study with his visuals.
