Mohammad Zia is a 10-year old child who became an adult overnight. His father was a small business owner. He was killed by the Burmese military while the family was fleeing Rakhine State. Mohammad could not bury his father’s body, so he covered it with leaves inside a forest. Mohammad, his mother and his four younger siblings managed to reach Bangladesh. He now collects firewood from a forest near their camp every alternative day for cooking purpose. When he cannot collect firewood, he uses plastic bottles, which are highly toxic. He is registered with a UNICEF-supported learning center, but sometimes he misses attending school as he needs to help his mother. Mohammad wants to go to school and continue to improve his English.
